Transaction Processing in a Mobile Computing Environment with Alternating Client Hosts

چکیده
Previous research in mobile data management has been focused on scenarios where mobile clients replace fixed ones. However, not all potential application fields of mobile computing fit into this scenario. There exist scenarios where mobile clients will not replace but accompany fixed ones. In this paper we introduce a real world application scenario requiring the capability to process a transaction from alternating, potentially mobile client hosts. With this scenario in mind we have developed three approaches supporting multiple clients in combination with a so called TXAgent, an object in the fixed network, which manages transactions on behalf of the client and the approach to realise the client as a migrating object. Finally we present a prototype implementation of the most promising approach.

Caprera: An Activity Framework for Transaction Processing on Wide-Area Networks
Caprera is an open framework for designing client/server applications that operate over a wide-area network. The activity model of Caprera used to extend transaction processing and transaction-oriented application in an open environment including mobile and remote clients connected by wireless, phone lines, or Internet is described here. Since Caprera enables off-line users on mobile platforms ...
متن کاملAn Enhanced MSS-based checkpointing Scheme for Mobile Computing Environment
Mobile computing systems are made up of different components among which Mobile Support Stations (MSSs) play a key role. This paper proposes an efficient MSS-based non-blocking coordinated checkpointing scheme for mobile computing environment. In the scheme suggested nearly all aspects of checkpointing and their related overheads are forwarded to the MSSs and as a result the workload of Mobile ...

In order to provide data consistency in the presence of failures and concurrency, database methods will continue to be important to the processing of shared information in a mobile computing environment. It is important, therefore, that we develop transaction processing systems that accommodate the limitations of mobile computing, such as frequent disconnection, limited battery life, low-bandwi...
متن کاملTransaction Processing in Mobile Computing Environment
Distributed systems are expected to support mobile computations executed over a computer network of xed and mobile hosts. This paper examines the requirements for structuring such mobile computations that access shared data in a database, argues that opennesting can better facilitate these requirements, and proposes an Open-Nested Transaction model in a mobile environment using the notion of Re...

Improvements in cellular and satellite technology have permitted portable computers to communicate with existing distributed computing networks. Users with palm-top computers, known as mobile hosts (MHs), utilize wireless connections to communicate with wired network from a number of locations at diierent times. In this paper, we introduce a mobile computing architecture for a battleeeld enviro...
